River Arts’ call to artists for ‘Summertime Blues’
River Arts is calling all artists to submit work for jurying into our next show entitled “Summertime Blues.” We encourage work in any medium including sculpture, ceramics, fiber and assemblage. Work can be submitted anytime during gallery hours, but the deadline is Saturday, July 8 at 4 p.m. Exhibition opening reception is Friday, July 14. The show runs through Aug. 11.
Artists may submit up to three works for an entry fee of $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. Artists will be notified by email or phone of the juror’s decision. Entry forms are available online at riverartsme.org and at the gallery, at 241 U.S. Route 1 in Damariscotta, when submitting. Submissions may not have been shown at River Arts previously. All work entered must be for sale.
Wall-hung work size maximum is 60 inches in height, 42 inches in width; for safety reasons, Plexiglass or other non-glass options should be used.
All works should be wired securely with picture wire (not floral wire, not string, not fish line). With the large number of works that are being shown, we are asking that work be presentation ready so that we are not spending so much time with chores such as cleaning the glass, tightening screws, and re-wiring works that are not gallery ready.
All works must be labeled with title and artist’s name on the back.
We want to encourage everyone to frame their works. Simple, well-constructed frames will give the gallery a more professional appearance. Your individual work will be greatly enhanced with proper framing. Table top frames do not hang well and we recommend that artists use standard wall frames complete with picture wire.
Queries and requests may be directed to River Arts at 563-1507 or by email at info@riverartsme.org. River Arts is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 to 4, and on Sundays from 10-2. It is closed on Mondays. River Arts is located at 241 US Route 1 in Damariscotta, Maine.
Further details can be found on the River Arts’ website www.riverartsme.org.
The juror for this show will be Debra Loughlin. As a working studio artist, with years in academic arts administration and owner of Isaac Dyer Galleries in Gorham, Loughlin developed a unique eye for art development. Her insight and ability to assist other artists’ growth and to exhibit their own work through her own passion, for art making is evident. Loughlin’s work was featured in an article in Newsweek magazine and the Daily Beast. She has participated in Combat Papers of New Jersey, Haystack and Penland Schools; is a member of the Odysseus Project in Boston, Massachusetts; and exhibited across the country in galleries for her work in sculpture, photography and painting.
