‘Nordic Rugs: Paintings for the Floor’
Nordic rugs will be lining the walls of River Arts’ West Gallery as of Friday, July 14, when the show of South Portland weaver Elizabeth Hunter’s work opens simultaneously with “Summertime Blues” in River Arts’ main gallery. An opening reception for both shows will be held on the 14th from 5-7 p.m. The show runs through July 25.
The asymmetrical, one of a kind rugs are often likened to abstract landscapes and are definitely paintings for the floor.
Hunter studied in Oslo, Norway; Reykjavik, Iceland; Torshavn, Faroe Islands, and Landskrona, Sweden. The Scandinavian sense of simplicity and color is evident in her work.
She has shown in Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. Hunter is on the board of the Maine Crafts Association.
