The Stable Gallery presents ‘It’s What We Do’
A rich and colorful collection of wood, ceramic, paint, silver and fiberglass works will greet visitors at the Stable Gallery, starting Thursday, Aug. 10. The public is invited to meet the featured artists at a reception on Friday, Aug. 11 from 5-7 p.m.
This month the artist members of Stable Gallery have created a stimulating display of fine art and craft works in the show “It’s What We Do,” which demonstrates the full range of creativity available to the artists represented by this gallery.
Mary Hall’s exquisite silver and Maine rocks jewelry is highlighted, as are the sensuous sea-based sculptures created by Ralph Moxcey. Marcia Brandwein’s oils and pastels depict flowers in close proximity and coastal scenes at a distance. Hati Modr finds her muse among the boats, buildings, and shadows of Monhegan Island.
Priscilla McCandless paints scenes of extraordinary vitality combining images from her life. Denise Rankin, also a crafter of Shaker wooden boxes, paints humorous series including her most recent robot series and “Advice Your Mother Gave You.” Louis Charlett draws out the unique beauty of each wood’s grain in his trays and lamps. The results are favorite wedding presents for the gallery’s repeat customers.
New to the gallery this year, Lori Watts creates ceramic mugs, bowls, and covered butter dishes finished with colorful firings.
The work of nearly 40 Maine artists is shown daily, with the display and featured artists changed the second week of each month. The current show will run through Sept. 6.
The gallery is located in a former Victorian stable at 26 Water Street, Damariscotta. To learn more about the gallery and participating artists, visit www.stablegallerymaine.com
