Making comb honey
Knox-Lincoln County Beekeepers [KLCB] host their last indoor meeting on Friday, March 23 with a Comb Honey Workshop featuring Neal Kober from Humble Abodes and Betterbee. The meeting begins with a potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. at Knox & Lincoln Counties Extension Office, 377 Manktown Road in Waldoboro.
The workshop begins at 6:30 p.m. Kober will lead us through a step-by-step demonstration of how to help our bees make comb honey. He was awarded an Eastern Apicultural Society's (EAS) blue ribbon and silver plate win at for his Hogg Halfcomb honey.
Kober was introduced to beekeeping as a teenager while living on the family dairy farm. He began beekeeping regularly in 2000 and manages about 50 hives as a sideline business selling comb and extracted honey both retail and wholesale. Currently, as a partner, he works full time for Betterbee. In this role, he helps manage the Betterbee Apiary, including the northern queen rearing program, the over-wintered nuc program, and honey production. He is also a partner at Humble Abodes, a woodenware manufacturing company in Windsor.
Join us for our potluck supper! Bring a dish big enough to serve 6, based on the first letter of your last name: A-I —main course, J-R — vegetable / side, S-Z — dessert.
Please remember to bring your own tableware. KLCB provides beverages.
This meeting is free and open to the public and anyone interested in beekeeping. Beginning in April, meetings and workshops move back outside. For details and directions to KLCB events, please visit the website at www.klcbee.com.
