Alna election season starts
Two of Alna’s three selectboard seats are up for election in March. Nomination papers are available starting Dec. 14 and are due in by Jan. 24 at the close of the town office business day, a town email announced Dec. 6.
As of Dec. 9, neither selectman whose term is up in March, Second Selectman Linda Kristan or Third Selectman Charles Culbertson, had decided about seeking a second, two-year term. In separate email replies to the question, Kristan said she was “still considering” and Culbertson said: “I have a few things going on professionally and I'm honestly still on the fence on whether I'll seek another term. I expect to be making a decision very soon.”
Longtime Road Commissioner Jeff Verney said by phone Dec. 9, he expects to seek another one-year term. And Wiscasset Newspaper emailed Alna’s two representatives on the Sheepscot Valley Regional School Unit board, Doug Morier and Shelby Biddy, to ask if they plan to run. One seat is for a full, three-year term ending in 2026; the other, a partial term that ends in 2024, according to the town email. Biddy said Dec. 10, she plans to run.
