Auditions for ‘The Fantasticks’ July 22
Studio Theater of Bath (STB) is thrilled to announce auditions for its production of the longest running production of any kind in the world and in American musical theater: Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt’s delightful musical comedy “The Fantasticks.” All auditions will be held on Saturday, July 22 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. in the Patten Free Library’s Community Room.
Audition information: there are roles for 6 men and 2 women ages 16 and up. 5 of the roles are singing roles, while 3 are acting. Perform a monologue of two minutes (or less) encouraged; prepare 16 bars of music of your choice (provide sheet music for accompanist). Wear loose clothing and be prepared to move. The show will be staged in the Curtis Room at the Chocolate Church Arts Center Sept. 29 and 30; Oct. 1, 6-8. Please provide ALL known date conflicts regarding rehearsal scheduling. - The Mute (non-singing)- a speechless presence who acts as the wall or elements of nature and provides a sense of magic to the audience. Casting a female with some ballet or expressive dance training.
- The Narrator/Bandit (El Gallo) (singing role) – a rakish, handsome gallant who holds the key to the fate of each of the characters, casting a male age 24-56, baritone
- The Girl (Louisa) (singing role) – a romantic idealist, in love with the idea of love, casting a female age 16 to 25, soprano
- The Boy (Matt) (singing role) – an innocent young man, a hopelessly romantic visionary, casting a male age 17-26, baritone/tenor
- The Boy’s Father (Hucklebee) (singing role)– former navy man, a meticulous gardener, casting a male age 30-65, baritone
- The Girl’s Father (Bellomy) (singing role)– a merchant and picky gardener, casting a male age 30-65, baritone
- The Actor (Henry) (non-singing role, may have some minor chorus singing) – an aging, overly dramatic thespian dreaming of the glory in the spotlight in the days of yore, casting a male age 40 to 80
- The Man Who Dies (Mortimer) (non-singing role, may have some minor chorus singing) – Henry’s ever-present sidekick and companion, casting a male any age 16 and over
