Bake sale offers homemade Valentine treats
Special sweet treats of all kinds will be sold at the “Sweets for the Sweet” Valentine Bake Sale Friday, Feb. 13, at Mid Coast Hospital, 123 Medical Center Drive. This popular fundraiser is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Café Corridor presented by the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary.
Homemade fudge, plates of assorted cookies (extremely popular), cinnamon rolls, quick breads, coffee cakes, cherry tarts, pies, scones and other treats will be packaged in cellophane bags and tied with red ribbons for instant gift giving. Small serving sizes are also a specialty.
Proceeds benefit the hospital with the auxiliary just completing its $120,000 pledge for the updated Maternity Unit infant security system. The auxiliary board expects to announce a new pledge later this spring. In addition, the auxiliary awards $40,000 in health career scholarships to worthy Midcoast students every spring.
Scholarship applications are on the Mid Coast website at www.midcoasthealth.com/volunteer and must meet the April 15 deadline. Awards are announced by early June for the fall semester.
Other projects are the Teddy bear club, which provides a stuffed friend to children in trauma, and the healing garden, used by so many patients, families, public and employees during the spring, summer and fall.
Donations of homemade goodies are appreciated and may be left at the Mid Coast Volunteer Office Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 11 and 12 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office is next to the Gift Shop at the main entrance. Please call 207-373-6015 for more information.
