Bishop to join St. Philip’s in celebration
The wardens, vestry and members of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church extend a cordial invitation to the community to join them in a special celebration of new ministry as they welcome the Rev. Thomas E. Junkert as their Priest in Charge. The Rt. Rev. Thomas J. Brown, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine, will preside at this Eucharist worship service.
Brown was ordained and consecrated the tenth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine on June 22, 2019 at St. Luke’s Cathedral in Portland. As the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine, Brown
leads more than 10,000 baptized members in 59 congregations and ministries across the state. Brown is a gifted preacher and communicator and shares his passion for the gospel and the people of this diocese.
Junkert and his wife Jane moved to Wiscasset in 2019 from Minnesota, having spent most of their lives in the Gopher State. Rev. Junkert is a retired Evangelical Lutheran Church in America clergy, serving Lutheran and Presbyterian Churches during his nearly 40 years of ordained ministry. The ELCA is a full communion partner with the Presbyterian Church USA and the Episcopal Church and United Church of Christ. Jane is a retired elementary teacher who enjoys crafting, singing in church choir and visits with family and friends.
St. Philip’s has a long, rich history in Wiscasset, dating back to 1856 and what was a Baptist church. Off Route 1 at 12 Hodge St., the church has tremendous outreach ministries of the Help Yourself Shelf Food Panty distributing food each Thursday afternoon. They also house the Bargain Basement Thrift Store open to serve the community on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Visit stphilipswiscasset.org for more information.
All are invited to this celebration on Sunday, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. This worship service will take the place of the morning Eucharist service.
