Bristol firefighters aid man in sailboat
A seasonal resident in his 50s escaped injury on June 30 when wind knocked over the 12-foot sailboat he was in on New Harbor, Bristol Fire Department Assistant Chief Jared Pendleton said.
The man had a life jacket on and was able to get the boat back upright. “The only thing hurt was his pride,” Pendleton said in a telephone interview after Monday afternoon’s incident.
The boat was bailed after being towed back to shore by the Firestorm, a lobster boat belonging to Pendleton’s father, retired Bristol fire chief Ron Pendleton.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Central County Ambulance had been called to the scene but their responses were canceled, the assistant chief said.
