Lincoln Theater/Summer Blockbuster Series
Catch some favorite throwback films on the big screen
This Tuesday marked the first day of summer, and what better way to celebrate than with some favorite throw-back films! Lincoln Theater is pleased to present the 2022 Summer Blockbuster series, celebrating family favorites that you rarely catch on the big screen. From “Field of Dreams” to an Indiana Jones double header, and finishing off with the end of summer, back to school classic, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” these summer flicks are fun must-see movies great for the whole family.
Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella, played by the one and only Kevin Costner, hears a mysterious voice in his cornfield saying, “If you build it, he will come.” Unable to ignore it, he begins a quest by turning his cornfield into a place where dreams can come true… a baseball field. With an all-star cast including James Earl Jones, Ray Liotta, and Amy Madigan, this 1989 film was nominated for 3 Oscars including Best Picture. Dreams come true in this timeless classic playing Thursday, June 30 at 7 p.m. and Friday, July 1 at 2 p.m. The perfect way to kick off the dog days of summer.
This August, our favorite archaeologist adventurer hits the big screen for a special event double header. On Thursday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. and Friday, Aug. 5 at 2 p.m., we bring you the first film in the Indiana Jones series, “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Set in 1936, Jones is hired by the U.S. government to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis can obtain its powers. And on Friday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 6 at 2 p.m., join Harrison Ford and Sean Connery as they search for the Holy Grail in “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.”
And to close out our Summer Blockbuster series, we have the perfect film as families begin preparing for those back-to-school blues. In “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” one fake sick day sends high school wise guy Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick), his girlfriend Sloane (Mia Sara) and his best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck) on the adventure of their young lives, journeying through Chicago while staying one step ahead of their obsessive principal along the way. Mark your calendars for this John Hughes classic, playing Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 2 at 2 p.m.
Lincoln Theater is located at 2 Theater St. in downtown Damariscotta. Tickets for all films are available for purchase at the door beginning 30 minutes before showtime, or in advance through the online box office at LincolnTheater.net.
