Chocolate Church Arts Center presents ‘Transformation/Identity’ in art gallery
The Chocolate Church Arts Center gallery in Bath will feature artists Jennifer Goldfinger and Kathryn Geismar in a show titled “Transformation/Identity,” with an opening event at CCAC on Friday, Oct. 8 at 5:30 p.m.
The show discusses memory and identity using oils and mixed media. This particular pairing of artists promises to provoke thought, reflection, and powerful emotion.
The fine art of Jennifer Goldfinger (Portland) has been shown throughout the United States and is collected internationally. Her art can be found at the Rice/Polak Gallery in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Goldfinger is one of the featured artists in the book “Encaustic Art of the Twenty-First Century.” Goldfinger is also a children’s book author and illustrator and is published by Harper Collins, Little Brown, Houghton Mifflin, and Scholastic.
Kathryn Geismar is an artist and psychologist who lives and works in Somerville, Massachusetts. Her interest in identity and internal harmony infuses her professional life in both areas. Geismar’s work explores the complex and often fragmentary nature of identity through portraits and abstract collage. A recent series depicts adolescents ranging in age from 14 to 21, who are claiming an identity in an age when binary definitions of self no longer hold much meaning. Geismar has recently exhibited her work at the Bromfield Gallery in Boston, the Schultz Gallery in Cambridge, and Inside Out Gallery in Somerville.
The Chocolate Church Arts Center, at 804 Washington Street, will host a gallery opening event on Friday Oct. 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Face coverings will be required for all in attendance. Light refreshments will be served outside. The event is free to attend, but guests are asked to register in advance. Registration and more information can be found at chocolatechurcharts.org
“Transformation/Identity” will be on display until Nov. 27, with the gallery open Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Visit the CCAC website and Facebook page for more information, or call 207-442-8455.
