Colin Farrell to perform with John Doyle
Colin Farrell of Lúnasa will join Irish guitarist John Doyle in concert on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor — rich and rousing Celtic music from some of the greats!
Farrell plays fiddle and tinwhistle with Lúnasa, and his first solo album (“On the Move,” - 2010) was named one of the 10 best albums of the year by the Irish Echo; his second album, “Make a Note,” - 2015, was named Instrumental Album of the year by liveIreland.
He has been performing since age 12, starting with St. Malachy’s Ceili Band, and has performed with Ceile, Flook, Karan Casey, Liam O’Connor and others.
Farrell is also a composer whose tunes have been played and recorded by numerous bands and musicians. In 2005, he was awarded a masters degree in music from Limerick University. Living in Florida since 2005, when not touring Colin has been teaching at schools and various camps around the U.S. and Europe. Prior to his appearance in Boothbay Harbor, Colin Farrell will be teaching intermediate fiddle at the O'Flaherty Irish Music Retreat in Texas.
Fiona Ritchie of Thistle & Shamrock (broadcast on Saturday evenings at 8 on MPBN after A Prairie Home Companion) writes of John Doyle: “He has a rhythmic guitar style like no other and his playing has become one of the defining features of today's contemporary Irish sound.”
As a member of Solas, a solo artist, or an accompanist, he has appeared on more than 50 albums with other folk luminaries including Liz Carroll, Eileen Ivers, Susan McKeown, Mick Moloney and Kate Rusby.
