Concert, delicacies and ‘fresh antiques’
Richard Plunkett likes to kick off the winter cobwebs each year with an open house event at The Wizard of Odds and Ends at historic Head Tide Village. This year’s happening and season opener will take place the weekend of April 30 and will feature great music, food, art and fresh antiques.
Plunkett moved to Maine about 30 years ago and has been actively involved with his passion for antiques and history, through professional organizations, as a dealer at his shops in Wiscasset, Beach Haven, New Jersey and Alna, and as an appraiser and lecturer.
He said he became enthralled with antiquing at the age of 8 when he began collecting “stuff” from the trash, neighbors, estate sales and wherever a treasure could be found.
“It all began with a little red wagon I pulled around the neighborhood; and now, 50 years later, I have a big red wagon (van) and I’m still going to auctions and estate sales and looking for treasures,” he said.
Plunkett’s eclectic collection of decorative objects, furniture, glass, china, toys, folk art and oddities have found a home at the 1880s era Head Tide general store and feed barn. Just minutes away from Wiscasset, Plunkett said he offers a diverse collection at “reasonable, not Route 1, prices.”
The Wizard of Odds and Ends open house will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m on April 30 and May 1. Harpist Suki Flanagan will perform with Gerry Flanagan (lute) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. Plunkett said a poetry reading featuring himself and Brian Donovan is also likely. Refreshments will be served and the Wizard himself will offer appraisals. Follow Route 218 from Wiscasset about 9 miles to Head Tide Village.
