CTL student is The Telling Room’s Lincoln County winner
The Center for Teaching and Learning is happy to announce that seventh grader Lucie Hollon was selected by The Telling Room as this year’s Lincoln County contest winner for her poem, “Patterns: An Abecedarian.”
Lucie’s poem uses the poetry style of abecedarian, in which the first letter of each line follows alphabetical order.
The Telling Room’s annual creative writing contest invites Maine youth, aged 6-18, to show off their writing. The judges selected a winner from each of Maine’s 16 counties. Each of the county winners receive a $50 award, and will be published in The Telling Room’s spring anthology.
Since its founding in 2004, The Telling Room of Portland has grown to work with over 2,500 young writers and serve more than 100 communities annually, offering writing and publishing programs. Their mission reads: “At The Telling Room, we empower youth through writing and share their voices with the world. Focused on young writers ages 6 to 18, we seek to build confidence, strengthen literacy skills, and provide real audiences for our students. We believe that the power of creative expression can change our communities and prepare our youth for success both now and in the future.”
