Damariscotta Montessori School opens summer program
Damariscotta Montessori School welcomed students back onto its campus on Monday, June 22 for its summer program. The school implemented smaller group sizes and new safety measures for COVID-19. Priority was given to DMS families needing childcare to return to work.
“We are thrilled to have children back on campus, and interacting with one another. The children have transitioned very well.” remarked Head of School, Chip DeLorenzo.
DMS has two small groups within the summer program. The primary program for children ages 2 and a half to six, and the elementary program for children, ages 6-12.
Primary themes include Sports, Botany, Art, Amazing Authors, Prehistoric Worlds, and Science. The elementary program features a different biome each week from the forest to the ocean as the children learn about the animals and plants of a given biome and how they adapt to their environment.
The DMS summer program has given the school an opportunity to test new protocols before school opens. Teachers and administrators are making careful observations and planning for the fall, as the summer students are learning how to interact with one another again and transitioning back to a school setting after months of distance learning.
