Diana Washburn exhibit at Miles
There’s a new show going up in the Miles Memorial Hospital Hall Gallery Sunday, Feb. 9. The paintings of Diana Washburn will be exhibited through March 12.
Washburn grew up in Providence, Rhode Island and graduated from the University of Rhode Island (RISD) with a degree in graphic design. Afterward she was employed as the art director of Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Boston. Washburn painted for several years and continued when she moved to Maine many years ago. She attended classes at The Maine College of Art in Portland and now paints full-time.
“Balance, form and color, especially color, design and the natural phenomena interest me greatly,” said Washburn. “My wish is to make people’s lives and surroundings brighter and happier, and I want to share my love of painting with those around me.”
Her paintings are slightly impressionistic and are of random sightings that intrigue her. Washburn’s camera is her sketchbook, photographing what may be a future painting.
Washburn takes particular delight in painting landscapes because, “The particular scene is never the same way twice.”
Washburn has exhibited at the Boothbay Region Art Foundation, The Crooker Gallery in Topsham, Maine Art Gallery, The Highlands, People’s United Bank, O.L.L.I.. University of Southern Maine, Ocean View at Falmouth, Clayton’s Bistro, The Woodlands Club; and several business offices. Recently one of her paintings was chosen to be the signature piece for the Community Counseling Center art auction.
Miles Memorial is at 35 Miles St. in Damariscotta.
