Duane H. Dunbar
Duane H. Dunbar, 69, died Oct. 1, 2016 at his home in Boothbay Harbor.
He was born June 28, 1947 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont to Harold J. Dunbar Jr. and Barbara Moore Dunbar. Duane grew up in Barnet, Vermont and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy. He graduated from Bentley University with a B.S. in accounting.
Duane worked in accounting for public accounting firms and private industry in Berlin and Northfield, Vermont and lived in Montpelier. He worked in several places in Maine including TDS phone company, Knickerbocker, Poole Brothers, Hammond Lumber, and the Boothbay Railway Museum, retiring in 2011. He was treasurer of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library and Used Book Store.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of the Aurora Lodge AF & AM #22 in Montpelier, Vermont, Valley of Montpelier Scottish Rite, and Valley of Burlington, Vermont Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Boothbay Fish & Game and a lifetime member of the NRA.
Duane loved to be outside and had a great sense of humor. He loved to do carpentry work and was always working on several projects. He had a passion for old cars, and played piano. He was a former exhibition water skier when he was young. Most of all, he loved to dance!
Duane was predeceased by his father, and by a sister, Paula Nye.
He is survived by his wife, Londa Dunbar of Boothbay Harbor; mother, Barbara M. Dunbar of W. Barnet, Vermont; daughter, Diana Brooks of Ravensdale, Washington; sister, Bonnie Easter and her husband Don of W. Barnet, Vermont; stepson, Cory Hyson and his wife Gina of Gorham; stepdaughter, Kristy Hyson of Edgecomb; grandsons, Ryan, Alex and Jamie Brooks of Ravensdale, Washington; granddaughters, Sia and Aera Hyson of Gorham and Amber and Skyler Hyson of Edgecomb
A memorial service to celebrate Duane’s life will be held 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Charles E. Sherman American Legion Post #36, Industrial Park Drive in Boothbay, Maine.
