Edgecomb nomination papers due March 18
The Mike Smith era as an Edgecomb selectman ends this May, as his third term expires. Smith announced last month he wouldn’t seek another term. The seat is one of eight municipal offices on the May 17 ballot.
Nomination papers became available Feb. 7, and candidates must return them by March 18. So far, only two candidates have taken out nomination papers: Town Clerk and Treasurer Claudia Coffin and Tax Collector Rebecca Brewer.
The three-year selectman’s position includes tax assessor and overseer of the poor duties. There are also two planning board seats expiring this May. Chairman Rebecca Graham’s term is ending. She intends to run for another term. “I’m intending to but the day job has interfered with my capacity to get my papers signed. So it’s not official at this point,” she said.
A vacant planning board seat also expires. Nichole Price’s school committee term is also expiring. All three offices are for three-year terms.
There are also four one-year positions on the ballot: treasurer, tax collector, town clerk and road commissioner. Scott Griffin is the road commissioner.
