Feed Our Scholars school supply drive begins
When families struggle to meet needs, those more fortunate can pay it forward by helping. With that in mind, it’s time to think all things school, especially with the school supply sales that have begun.
Those hard-pressed to pay their electricity bills are also expected to provide school supplies. In an effort to ease this situation, Feed Our Scholars is again sponsoring a supply drive. Those wishing to help out can drop those notebooks, pencils and such in boxes lat the First Congregational Church, Route 1 in Wiscasset, or at St. Philip’s on Hodge Street in Wiscasset.
Holly Morgan, special education teacher at Wiscasset Elementary School, said the supplies have made a great difference for the students. She hopes people will give generously again this year.
What is needed? The usual writing materials for all ages: Paper, notebooks, pencils, pens, glue, tape, markers, crayons, regular as well as snub-nosed scissors, simple calculators, rulers, assignment books, backpacks, boxes of tissues, and art supplies. Whatever your child needs for school, there’s a local child who doesn’t have the means to acquire those items. All supplies collected will be divided between Wiscasset Elementary and Wiscasset Middle High schools. And one doesn’t need to only donate supplies at the beginning of the school year; the need goes on all year through.
No time to buy, but want to help out? Send a check made out to Feed Our Scholars, c/o St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St., Wiscasset. Please note “school supplies” on the memo line. All donations are tax-deductible, so ask for a receipt and one will be provided.
FOS would also like to encourage the knitters among you. Winter is in our future. The past hat-mittens-gloves-socks-scarves drives have provided students with much needed gear for nippy days on the playground. Let’s face it, little ones often lose or misplace their winter gear, so there is a constant need for replenishment. Please consider getting those needles going for the children of all ages. Call St. Philip’s at 882-7184 to leave a message, and an FOS committee person will respond.
