‘The Goonies’ are coming to Harbor Theater’s drive-in
Remember what fun we all had at the Harbor Theater drive-in the last two summers? Due to public demand, we are doing it again, one more time, on Sunday, Aug. 28, 8 p.m.
This free event will feature “The Goonies,” the 1985 popular comedy/adventure film that has since become a cult film. It’s rated PG, 1 hour 54 minutes.
Find your spot in the parking lot between 7 and 7:30 p.m. The concession stand in the theater will be open for popcorn, sodas and candy. Restrooms will also be available.
Cartoons start at 7:45 p.m. Film starts at 8 p.m. (or when it is totally dark). Audio will be through your car FM radio ... station to be announced before the cartoons start.
Bring your pickup truck full of kids, your yard chairs, or just two of you in a car ... it’s free for all thanks to Eventide Specialties and a special friend of the Harbor Theater, sponsors of this event.
Based on a story by Steven Spielberg, the film features a group of teenagers who live in the “Goon Docks” neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon. While attempting to save their homes from foreclosure, they discover an old treasure map that takes them on an adventure to unearth the long-lost fortune of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th-century pirate. During the adventure, they are chased by a family of criminals who want the treasure for themselves.
“The Goonies has every imaginable funhouse flourish. It has crooks, bats, cobwebs, skeletons, a lovable monster, an underground grotto and a treasure hidden by some of the most considerate, clue-loving pirates who ever lived.” - Janet Maslin, The New York Times
