Ingeborg K. Soule
Ingeborg Katharina Soule (nee Albrecht) died Sept. 15, 2016.
She was born in Neustadt a.d. Weinstrasse, Germany on Oct. 27, 1927 to Heinrich and Paula Albrecht. She grew up amid the turmoil of World War II. She is known for her speeches to local schools and civic groups of life during that period.
In 1959 she emigrated to the U.S. to marry her husband Robert (Bob) Soule. In the early 1980s, she became a naturalized citizen. They celebrated their 57th anniversary this year. Together they raised three sons, Charles (Chuck), Eric and Kirk.
She studied several horticultural and flower designer courses from Penn State University. After finishing the floral designer course she offered free design work to Mel Henderson at Kennebec Greenhouses in Bath. She was immediately hired and worked several years there.
In the 1970s, she owned and operated the Village Flower Shoppe on the Old Bath Road in Wiscasset. After closing her shop, she assisted Flowerland in Damariscotta establish their business and later helped the Conley’s in Boothbay Harbor in starting their flower shop.
She was a member of the Wiscasset School Board for seven years, including a period as its chairman. In 1985 she was nominated for the Jefferson Award.
She taught evening school for some 20 years on many various subjects from knitting to conversational German. She enjoyed sharing her multitude of talents with others. She also donated most of her Social Security income to various charities. She worked as a volunteer at Mid Coast Hospital.
Inge also worked on the Wiscasset Volunteer Ambulance Service for several years and was a founder of the Wiscasset Substance Abuse Committee. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bath.
She leaves behind her husband Bob; three sons and their children: Chuck with wife Susan of Exeter, New Hampshire and granddaughters Dr. Erin E. Soule of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Kaitlyn Shinberg with husband Matt of South Portland; Eric with wife Carolyn of Freeport and granddaughter Gina M. Soule of Savannah, Georgia; Kirk with wife Beth and grandsons Keenan, Garrett and Braedon, all of Hampden. She is also survived by a brother, Dieter Hauenstein of Marktheidenfeld, Germany.
A memorial service will be held at the Bath United Methodist Church on Oak Grove Ave on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Shriners Hospital for Children Processing Center, P.O. Box 1510, Ranson, WV 25438-4510 in remembrance of Inge Soule.
