Learn how to fight fraud
Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center in Damariscotta will host its weekly Lunch and Learn program on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 11:15 a.m.
Following the luncheon Jane Margesson, Communications Director for AARP of Maine will discuss fighting fraud in Maine.
With its aging demographic, rising healthcare costs, and economic uncertainty, Maine has become a fertile market for fraud in its many forms.
Margesson will provide luncheon guests with information about the resources that are available to community members so that each of us can become our own best watchdogs as well as play a role in protecting family members, friends and colleagues.
“The statistics are terrifying: Every three seconds someone is a victim of identity theft. Identity theft, investment fraud and scams rob millions of American’s of their hard-earned money every year,” Margesson said. “In fact, it is estimated that in 2012, 12.6 million people were victims of identity theft alone — that’s one victim every three seconds. This is why it is so important that we all work together to combat fraud.”
Margesson has worked for AARP for over 20 years in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and now Maine. She is proud to work every day with a remarkable team that includes volunteers throughout the state who propel AARP's mission to improve the lives of all as we age.
Reservations are required. Please call 207-563-1363 by noon on Monday, Jan. 5 to make your luncheon reservation entrée selection (pot roast). The cost is $5 per person for luncheon guests over 60. All others $6 per person. Can’t make it to lunch?
