Learning about gardens
Paul Miller, chair of Time and Tide Resource Conservation & Development Area, came to Wiscasset Elementary School recently to visit the program the organization has given a grant to. The children were incorporating what they learned from the garden into the classroom.
Miller observed Lisa Packard teaching a lesson on the different parts of a plant and which parts are edible. Students were fortunate to be able to witness a butterfly emerge from its chrysalis in the classroom aquarium. Jan Whitfield from the Garden Club of Wiscasset released a new butterfly into the school garden. The garden is the creation of Whitfield and fellow club member Chris Grosser. They have put countless hours into producing this lovely garden for all to enjoy. Students are fortunate to reap the fruits of this labor as some of the produce is used in the school's lunch program. A true community collaboration!
