Long-range plan needed in Westport
Dear Editor:
I left the Select Board meeting at Westport Island last night as I no longer wanted to participate in the “Blame Game” with the term “his estimate” being repeated by the Second Selectman and a handout pointing out overruns in the Maintenance budget happening the last five years.
The town roads on Westport Island are in a large part cow paths that became roads many years ago. Unfortunately, they became roads without any upgrades to support the 4 axle trucks that deliver materials and 3 axle garbage trucks and fuel trucks that mostly ignore the load limit signs posted every year.
A long-range plan needs to be developed to upgrade all the town roads to support today’s heavy loads by the Road Committee that can be accomplished without over burdening taxpayers.
