Mark Mellor’s art at BHML
Mark Mellor is the November Artist of the Month at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library. His exhibit, “Buoys,” can be viewed in the upstairs community room during normal library hours. This is his fourth show at the library, inspired by all the brightly colored buoys in Boothbay Harbor. He is dedicating this exhibit to this staple of Maine, its lobster industry.
In July of 1996, Mark opened the seasonal Oak Street Gallery, after converting the two car garage at the family’s home at 35 Oak Street in Boothbay Harbor. He has enjoyed meeting tourists and art lovers who arrive as strangers and, more than likely, leave as friends. Mellor acknowledges that it makes it much easier to part with one of his watercolors knowing it is going to a good home.
During his career of nearly 40 years of watercolor experience, he has been awarded membership in the Connecticut Watercolor Society, New Haven Paint and Clay Club, and the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts. Mellor is a member of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation (BRAF) and the Plein Air Painters of Maine (PAPME).
Mellor’s watercolors have been exhibited in shows at: BRAF, including ARTinME; River Arts in Damariscotta, The First and Key banks, Miles Memorial Hospital and the former St. Andrews Hospital; and the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset. Mellor’s art work has been placed in all corners of the world and almost every state in the country.
