MSMT and Portland Stage present ‘The All Night Strut!’
Maine State Music Theatre (MSMT) in Brunswick and Portland Stage (PS) in Portland announce a second partnership and artistic collaboration that will continue to broaden the connection between the two communities and deepen the program offerings for both theatres’ audiences.
Last season the two organizations combined creative and administrative forces to bring Frank McCourt’s irreverent musical “The Irish… And How They Got That Way” to critical acclaim and sold out performances.
Curt Dale Clark, Artistic Director for MSMT, says: “This collaboration with Portland Stage just makes sense – when arts organizations work together the end result is even greater than the sum of its parts. We are delighted to partner once again with Portland Stage on this beautiful production of a play that I know both of our audiences and the whole community will love.”
Anita Stewart, Executive and Artistic Director of Portland Stage says: “Our audience is still talking about our first collaborative project with MSMT. So after our first hit, I'm looking forward partnering with MSMT for a second time.”
“The All Night Strut!”, by Fran Charnas moves through the Depression, World War II and the post-war boom in a two-act musical celebration of the 1930s and '40s. Weaving together the work of legendary songwriters such as Hoagy Carmichael, Frank Loesser, Duke Ellington, Johnny Mercer, Cab Calloway and the Gershwins, the story moves through time and place telling the story of a beloved American era through its song and music.
This international hit has delighted audiences old and young with its sublime music and sheer energy with songs including "Minnie The Moocher,” "In The Mood," "Fascinating Rhythm," "Hit That Jive, Jack,” "I'll Be Seeing You," “It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got That Swing,” and "As Time Goes By.”
Performances will be at Portland Stage, 25A Forest Avenue, between Congress and Cumberland avenues, in Portland Maine.
Tickets for MSMT and Portland Stage Subscribers are on sale through June 15 at a discounted price. Full price tickets go on sale to the general public on April 28. To purchase tickets, call Portland Stage at 207-774-0465 or visit www.portlandstage.org.
