Muriel A. Yereance
Muriel “Mickey’’ Alice Yereance, 91, of Newcastle, formerly of Boothbay Harbor and Southport, died peacefully Sept. 19, 2016 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, surrounded by her family.
She was born at home Aug. 10, 1925 in Woodridge, New Jersey, the daughter of James and Elsie Young.
A graduate of Woodridge High School, Class of 1943, she was voted most sophisticated senior and was class president. She first met her husband in kindergarten; they went through school together.
After high school she attended Cornell University and worked in New York City as a secretary. While attending a mutual friend’s house party, she met up with her childhood friend Lee Yereance. They left the party together and spent the next 70-plus years as a couple, marrying in 1946 in the Presbyterian Church in Woodridge.
She and her husband moved from New York with their family to the Boothbay region in 1976 and owned and operated Cash and Carry convenience store on Townsend Avenue, Boothbay Harbor, opposite Seagate. The Yereances spent many winters in Florida where Mickey enjoyed walking the beaches and sailing. She especially loved collecting seashells which she often used for different crafts.
The Yereances were active members of the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club for many years and attended the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor. She took great pride in the fact that she had a close-knit family, which got together often to celebrate holidays, birthdays and enjoy summer cookouts.
She was predeceased by her sister Ruth and brother James.
She is survived by her husband, Leroy of Newcastle and a brother, Gilbert Young of Ringwood, N.J. Her children include Ken Yereance of Damariscotta, Susan Morley and husband Joel of Edgecomb, Carol Heaberlin and husband Rick of Newcastle, Elayne Trotta of Pensacola, Florida, and David Yereance and wife Lisa of Riverview, Florida. Grandchildren include Andrew Morley and wife Sarah, Christina and Sarah C. Morley, Jason Yereance and partner Danielle Glidden, Scott Yereance and wife Katie, Bryan Heaberlin and wife Melissa, Melinda Jones and husband Mike, Nicholas Heaberlin, Richard Trotta and wife Michelle, Nicole and Lindsey Trotta, Ashley Panagakos and husband Nicholas, Taylor, Austin and Sam Yereance, and Seth Adams. Great-grandchildren include Hannah and Nicholas Morley, Luke Morley, Griffin Yereance, Daniel and Ellison Trotta, Nicholas, Nayden and Nason Heaberlin, Rick-Wyatt Jones, Douglas, Jacob, Joshua and Skylar McMillan and Cole and Noah Heaberlin; two great-great-grandchildren, Ayrianna and Tucker McMillan; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled to be held at Strong Funeral Home, Main Street (Route 1), Damariscotta, Maine at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 23. Immediate family only.
