New art, musical favorites highlight Wiscasset Art Walk on Sept. 29
Enjoy the final Wiscasset Art Walk of 2016 on Thursday, Sept. 29, 5 to 8 p.m., as guest artists exhibit and musicians play for visitors throughout the Village. The season has changed but sidewalks teem with music, art, and friends! Participant sites are marked with colorful streamers and touring maps are available at all participants throughout the Village.
As the sun sets over the Sheepscot River, the Village sidewalks will be energized with the bluesy sounds of Married with Chitlins’ country tunes while Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts demonstrates wheel throwing in front of 106 Main Street, and the Garden Club of Wiscasset sells freshly cut floral bouquets in front of Treats, 80 Main Street.
Inside, Treats features their very popular wine tasting and displays the art of locals Diane Langley and Mat O’Donnell; Beelicious Market, 64 Main St., offers samples of their specialty foods. Also at Beelicious, Wiscasset autistic artist, Barbara Welborn, will be displaying her very specialized cat portraits. For the cat enthusiast, Barbara will paint a portrait of your feline in a costume of your choosing. Next door at Moulinette, 60 Main St., Waldoboro artist Debe Loughlin exhibits her paintings inspired by the natural world. Around the corner at 36 Water St., Midcoast Conservancy hosts Alna artist Kate Nordstrom and a selection of her recently completed abstracted landscapes. Look for classical guitarist Jonathan Waldo playing one of his own fine hand-made guitars.
Bath resident and world renown jazz clarinetist Brad Terry returns to Wiscasset Art Walk where he and colleagues Vaughn DeForest on acoustic bass and David Clarke on jazz guitar will entertain visitors, concert-style, in WBG Modern & Contemporary, 8 Federal St. Save a few moments to sit and listen to this jazz legend perform!
The open doors of Wiscasset Village invite you to enjoy the work of exceptional artists on display in the galleries, peruse through the many specialty and antique shops, enjoy complimentary wine and tasty tidbits, talk with artists and shopkeepers, and enjoy end-of-summer lobster rolls along the Sheepscot River. Simply park your car and meander.
Wiscasset Art Walk is held on the last Thursday of the summer months, June through September, from 5-8 p.m. Major Sponsors for Wiscasset Art Walk 2016 are Ames True Value, Big Barn Coffee, Carleton Real Estate, Carriage House Gardens, First National Bank, and Fogg Art Restoration. Additional sponsors are the Carl M.P. Larrabee Agency, Cod Cove Inn, French & Co. Antiques, and Red’s Eats.
