Nor’easters Barbershop Chorus’ annual show
The Nor’easters Barbershop Chorus of Bath/Brunswick is pleased to celebrate their 50th year of being a chartered chorus through the Barbershop Harmony Society; with a special Annual Show on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 320 Church Road in Brunswick.
This year’s theme is “The Golden Eras of Radio, Records and Railroads!” The Nor’easters will be performing songs from and about these various eras of music including great songs like “16 Tons,” “King of the Road,” “California Dreamin’,” “After You’ve Gone,” Mills Brothers Medley; “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad,” and much much more.
In addition to hearing great barbershop music, the chorus is pleased to also have as their special guests; the Brunswick High School boys’ chorus “The Tone Rangers” and the high school girls’ chorus, “The Decibelles.” Following the theme for this year, and a treat for all ages, the Maine 3Railers Model Train Club will have a train layout set up for folks to enjoy before the show and during the intermission..
This year’s tickets are $14 seniors, $17 general admission and students under 18 are free. Tickets will be available from the chorus members as well as the day of the show.
Barbershop music is unique in the way it is arranged and firstly is a capella, which means no accompaniment to it. Because there is not anything else instrumental accompanying the music, the notes have to be extremely accurate and the chords perfectly lined up. The Nor’easters work hard to sing well and present their wonderful hobby the best way possible while having fun doing it.
To that end, if any male in the area would like to try their hand at singing Barbershop music, the Nor’easters are having a guest night on Oct. 18. Come enjoy a wonderful evening with great men who love to sing and have fun doing it. For more information, contact Ray Robitaille at 542-7229.
