Plein air "paint the town" a success in Wiscasset
Pastels, watercolors, and oils were on display to an enthusiastic crowd of art lovers the evening of Aug. 27. Many visitors and residents, who had seen this group of artists in locations around Wiscasset village during the previous day and even at midnight on the Town Dock (resulting in some curiosity by the local police), were eager to see the finished works.
The event was organized by Jorge Pena, Ph.D., retired Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida, now an accomplished artist and resident of Wiscasset. Kathi-Ellen Nordone from Damariscotta and her bass player for sang and played during the reception while visitors to the historic Maine Art Gallery exhibition space enjoyed wine and Tapas.
The artist group included the classics of the area, such as Tony van Hasselt and Corrine McIntyre, and many talented newcomers. We hope that this group will return for an encore next summer - look for them once again painting en plein air during the last Wiscasset Art Walk of the season on Sept. 29 from 5 to 8 p.m.
