Police arrest Wiscasset man on firearms charge
Gardiner police have arrested a Wiscasset man on a firearms charge after meeting him to question him about his girlfriend’s shooting, Gardiner Police Chief James Toman said.
Sean Kingston, 38, of Wiscasset voluntarily turned himself in to Gardiner Police Detective Michael Durham at about 10:45 a.m., Monday, Dec. 9, Toman said in a press release hours later.
“At the conclusion of the interview, Det. Durham placed ... Kingston ... under arrest. Kingston has been charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person ... and bail has been set at $1,000,” the release continues.
Kingston was taken to the Kennebec County Jail in Augusta. “Further charges may be pending and the investigation is ongoing,” Toman states in the release.
The December 9 meeting with Kingston followed efforts by the Gardiner Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and Wiscasset Police Department to locate him.
Police believe that prior to the December 7 incident, Kingston was splitting his time living in Wiscasset and at the Costello Road, Gardiner, home where the shooting occurred.
His girlfriend is recovering at a Lewiston hospital from a gunshot wound to the torso, police said; her children were home at the time of the shooting, but did not witness it.
The wound the 34-year-old woman received does not appear life-threatening, police said.
