Police issue warning following overdose
Boothbay Harbor Police Chief Bob Hasch issued a warning about the potential for high potency drugs in the Midcoast Maine region.
Hasch said Boothbay Harbor Police Department and Boothbay Region Ambulance Service responded to an overdose on July 26.
“We’re concerned because there has been a real spate of overdoses in the Midcoast region, including two deaths in Belfast in the past week. There is some bad stuff out there right now. We want people to be aware of that and to know that there are resources available for help in this community,” Hasch said.
Hasch encouraged users and their families looking for help to contact him or Addiction Outreach Program Director Holly Stover.
“We have a healthy recovery community here and there is lots of support for people who are dealing with addiction. Holly Stover can be reached on her cell phone at 207-350-7477 and she will respond to text messages,” Hasch said.
He also said a peer-to-peer center will be opening in Boothbay Harbor soon.
“We have a lot of peer support right now in this community. The peer-to-peer center will provide a physical space where people can go for all manner of support from others who know first-hand the difficulties. This is really about health and happiness. The message I want each person suffering to hear is this: “You can be healthy and happy. It just takes some work.”
Hasch also expressed appreciation for BRAS. “Their response is always so quick and they do their jobs so well. We are very fortunate to have them here.”
