Priscilla Wallace
Priscilla “Pat” Rice Eaton Wallace, 99, of Newington, Connecticut and Southport, Maine passed away peacefully at her home on August 25, 2021
Pat was born in Melrose, Massachusetts on July 19, 1922 to Walter Rice and Bernice (Marriner) Eaton. Pat graduated from Melrose High School and University of Maine in 1944. She married Leonard G. Wallace in October of 1947 and settled in Wakefield, Massachusetts. The growing family moved to Newington, Connecticut in 1953.
Pat spent every summer (except three) at her favorite place, Dunster Cottage in Southport. She loved to sail, swim, fish and clam. One of her favorite spots was sitting on her deck overlooking Cozy Harbor watching the comings and goings of boating life. In 1923, while traveling from Boston to Bath, Maine, she and her mother survived the shipwreck on the City of Rockland on the Kennebunk River.
She was employed by Aetna Life for 30 years and retired at age 64. Pat was ahead of her time, she was one of the first wave of women who joined the workforce in the early ’60s.
She and Lenny were lifelong lovers of square dancing. After retirement, they became worldwide travelers. Their pictures and stories were enjoyed by all. She volunteered at the Market Square Thrift Shop and did Zumba until the age of 97.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard and her oldest son, Jeffrey.
Survivors include her children, Scott and (Chris) Wallace of Ridgefield, Connecticut Sherry and (Robert) Spring of Newington, Connecticut, Lisa Lawlor of Woodstock, Vermont and Craig and (Marjorie) Wallace of New Britain, Connecticut; nine grandchildren, Brian and Gregory Wallace, Jeffrey Spring and Lindsay Spring Vincenzo, Jessa, Joe and Ed Lawlor and Deanne and Carli Wallace; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ben and Poppy Wallace, Jacob, Aiden and Noah Spring, Brady, Mason and Charlee Vincenzo; her brother Robert and (Leanne) Eaton of Southport, Maine; her niece, Susan Scales and two nephews, Robert and Richard Eaton; and, of course, her best friend and partner in crime, her miniature collie, Molly.
Pat was smart, fiercely independent and always did her best for family and friends.
She lived a happy, healthy and active life. When asked what was the secret to living a long life, she replied reading books, doing puzzles and having an occasional cocktail. Pat was ready to go and our family is happy that she is reunited with all her family and friends. We will miss her very much.
We would like to thank Cynthia, her home companion for her last few months, Independence at Home, Hartford Health Care at Home Hospice Team and the nursing
staff at HHC for Healthy Aging for her care during these last few months. A special thanks to her friend and neighbor Lorraine who provided years of support and friendship.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hendricks Hill Museum - Southport Historical Society by mail at 419 Hendricks Hill Road, Southport ME 04576 or by calling 1-207-633-1102.
