Readathon to benefit WES student’s medical treatment
Students and staff at Wiscasset Elementary and Wiscasset Middle schools will hold a readathon fundraiser to support fifth grader Willow Orr, who is experiencing serious medical challenges requiring intensive medical treatment and travel. WES/WMS students will be invited to gather sponsors for 30-40 minutes of reading across the schools.
Heard daily throughout WES are the phrases, “Be Aware and Show You Care,” and “We Take Care of Each Other at WES.” This fundraiser provides students with a real life opportunity to demonstrate these skills.
WES music teacher Carole Drury and WSD Librarian Elizabeth Bodkin will lead a schoolwide assembly Feb. 16 at WES featuring songs of love, kindness and friendship. Students and staff are invited to wear purple in honor of Willow on that day. All staff and students will read for 30-40 minutes as part of this community-wide initiative. The funds raised will help the family with travel costs and other related medical expenses.
