Seawicks new Maine candle launching
Seawicks Candle Company has added a new candle to its iconic collection.
The new Maine candle was launched on Saturday, Oct. 15. It features a dark green screen-printing with the shape of the state of Maine with some strategic locations and other art, designed by a Maine artist. The glass is made in the U.S., and the screen-printing was done in the U.S.
The candles will have a Maine woods scent. They are hand-poured at the Seawicks Candle studio, here in Boothbay, by Seawicks owners Michael and Cara Gaffney. All of their candles are 100 percent soy wax made from soy grown by American farmers.
Even the paper dust cover on the candle was printed in the U.S.
And if all that's not enough, once the candle has burned out, the glass it was encased in can be used as a cocktail glass.
All Seawicks candles are made the old-fashioned way — hand-poured in small batches. The fragrances are delicate — not the overly sweet or powerful aromas that so many scented candles are known for. The business’ website states: “Our scents are a direct reflection of life on the coast.”
The couple started making candles in a boathouse at their home in Edgecomb in 2011.
Seawicks’ Boothbay Harbor store at 8 Wharf Street will be open through December. The new Maine Candle is available there, and on the Seawicks Candle Company website.
