St. Philip’s to fete retiring deacon
Marcia Richardson, who has dedicated her energies to St. Philip’s Church in Wiscasset, is retiring after 25 years as its Deacon. Richardson, wife, mother of five, and retired substance abuse counselor, had been a devoted member of the St. Philip’s community all her adult life when she felt the calling to serve in a more profound way. Richardson writes: “To be called to become a Deacon was never my idea. The calling came to me and ordination became possible because of trust and support from the Diocese, from St. Philip’s and from all of you who have supported and strengthened God’s will for my life.”
“I am blessed to know and feel God’s love and care which continues to be reinforced through worship and through the love that surrounds me,” writes Richardson. Anyone who is in Marcia’s presence senses that love radiating. Her impact goes further than the St. Philip’s community to the community in general as she has helped those in trauma or in joy who reached out to her for support.
The Deacon continues, “Retiring from liturgical ministry is hard for me. Please pray that God will continue to bless my life with opportunities to serve in ways of God’s choosing.” Her religious family is sure she will still be finding ways to serve, and invites one and all to join in the celebration of Deacon Marcia on Sunday, April 30, at 2 p.m.. at St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St. in Wiscasset. Bring cards, bring gifts, bring memories to share, bring yourselves to be part of the celebration of a woman of sterling service.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
