“Learning to Drive.” Wendy Shields (Patricia Clarkson) is a book editor from New York facing a marriage crisis. Darwan Singh Tur is a driving instructor from India with an abiding respect for tradition. When Wendy sets out to reclaim her independence, she hits a unique roadblock - she never learned to drive.
She hires Darwan, a driving instructor and part-time cabdriver, to teach her. They form an unlikely bond that inspires each to embrace the humor, freedom, and strength that come with starting anew. Plays Wednesday, Oct. 21 and Thursday, Oct. 22 at 2 and 7 p.m.
“The Intern.” A new job can be a difficult challenge, especially if you've already retired. Seventy-year-old widower Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) seizes the opportunity to become a senior intern at an online fashion site.
Ben soon becomes popular with his younger co-workers, including Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway), the boss and founder of the company. Whittaker's charm, wisdom and sense of humor help him develop a special bond and growing friendship with Jules.
Writing for The Chicago Sun-Times, Richard Roeper describes “The Intern” as having “some genuinely insightful dialogue, a number of truly funny bits of physical business, and small scenes allowing us to get know and like a half-dozen supporting players, 'The Intern' grows on us from scene to scene, from moment to moment.”
The film plays at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, Saturday, Oct. 24 Wednesday, Oct. 28 and Thursday, Oct. 29; and Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2 and 7 p.m.
