There are seven artists who use oil paints at the Saltwater Artists Gallery, all with very different styles.  The two featured this week are Scott White of Chamberlain and Sue Heil Kibbe of Southport. The others are: Beth Badger, Mary Buergin, Carolyn Howe, Polly Steadman and Carol Wiley.

 

Scott White's professional life was as a Master Printer utilizing the Pantone Matching System. He retired to the Pemaquid  Peninsula and began painting seascapes, drawing inspiration from his view of Muscongus Bay.  His goal “is to capture the sea with all its diverse shorelines, marine life, aquatic birds, lighthouses, and most of all, its glorious waves.”

 

Sue Heil Kibbe came to Maine summers as a child and settled permanently in Southport in 1993. She  has pursued her artistic license in virtually every media while painting and teaching with a specialty in portraiture. Her philosophy is summed up in her words, "The more you experience the thrill of painting from life, the more addicted you become.  I try to let my enthusiasm translate into both my painting and teaching. Classic romantic realism with a healthy serving of impressionism has become the best way of extolling  the beauty of God's world."

 

The Saltwater Artists Gallery is located at 3056 Bristol Road, New Harbor, 1/2 mile before the Pemaquid Lighthouse, where artwork of 26 artists can be viewed.  It is open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Strict  coronavirus rules are in effect so bring a face covering.
