Swing, swing, swing with the Al Corey Big Band Veterans’ Day weekend
On Saturday, Nov. 12, the Al Corey Big Band will be playing at the Jewell Lodge at Wavus in Jefferson as part of a joint fundraiser for Skidompha Library and Great Salt Bay Community School. Event sponsors are A.G.A. Correa & Son, Drum & Drum Real Estate, and HM Payson. Proceeds will benefit both the Library and GSB’s Friends of Music Education.
Students in GSB’s music program will decorate the Lodge as a USO Club and the event will run from 5 to 9 p.m.. The students will attend the evening’s festivities with their parents and are excited about the chance to hear an authentic big band.
Grab your dancing shoes and come out early for free dance lessons from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by the great sounds of the big band era as played by the ever popular Al Corey Band, led by Brian Nadeau on trumpet. The evening also includes a variety of delectable hors d’oeuvres, a complimentary drink, cash bar, swing dancing, diamond necklace raffle, and lots of fun!
According to Brian Nadeau “what makes the Al Corey band so special is you are hearing a precious piece of Maine history that has been around for 63 years! Along with our fabulous vocalist, Virginia Palmer … any performance is one to remember!”
All this for just $25 for adults and $10 for those 18 and under. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Amy McNaughton at Skidompha: devdir@msln.net or 563-1940. Please order now as tickets are selling fast and we’re not sure we will have any at the door.
For those unable to attend but wishing to support Skidompha and GSB can do so in one of two ways. By purchasing a raffle ticket for the stunning “Center of Affection” diamond necklace donated by AGA Correa & Son jewelers. This exquisite piece retails for $2,750. Tickets are $50 each and only 200 will be sold so chances of winning are excellent. Drawing will be held that evening and winner need not be present.
The second way is to “Thank a Vet” by purchasing one or more event tickets and we will see that a deserving vet receives those tickets with your compliments. It is a wonderful way to thank a veteran for his/her service and enable them to enjoy a nostalgic evening.
