Talking Art in Maine with guest Alan Bray
Newcastle artist Jane Dahmen returns to Lincoln Theater on Thursday, March 23 at 7 p.m. to launch a new season of the theater’s highly successful series, Talking Art in Maine: Intimate Conversations. Her first guest of this year’s four conversations is artist Alan Bray.
Bray paints in casein, a milk-based tempera that has virtually no drying time. Necessarily, his paintings are technically complex because they consist of thousands of tiny brush strokes, built up in layers, out of which the images – the vision – advance from the foundation of a mirror-smooth, absolute void of white ground. It is a method of painting that follows directly from his method of exploring his subjects.
Talking Art in Maine is an intimate exploration with artists and curators who have made substantial contributions to the arts in Maine. Following the conversation with Alan Bray, the series continues with Tom Hall, April 12; Anne and Frank Goodyear, co-Directors Bowdoin College Museum of Art on May 17, and with Kazumi Hoshino and Jesse Salisbury June 1.
The conversations all take place at the Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta and are offered free to the public thanks to the generous sponsorship of HM Payson, Art Collector Maine, and Maine Home + Design magazine.
