Tapestry Singers calling all tenors and basses
Did you sing in high school, college, church choir, but gave it up when family and career demands intervened? If so, now is a good time to think about putting your musical talents to work again.
The Tapestry Singers, a Damariscotta chorus under the direction of Beth Preston, is seeking tenors and basses for the 2017-2018 season. Prospective chorus members are invited to schedule an audition in the coming weeks by visiting the website, TapestrySingersMaine.org and clicking on Join Us. One need not be a snorer to audition!
Rick Burt of Boothbay Harbor, a new member as of last year, adds that he found the practice aids to be a big help. “I hadn’t sung in a group for many years,” he explains, “and I was concerned that I’d have trouble keeping up. But the practice tracks provided for each specific part are a fantastic aid. They are posted on the website for downloading, or you can request a CD. It’s like practicing by karaoke.” He adds that “Beth Preston’s music choices are outstanding. In the two programs I’ve participated in so far, we men were featured in several pieces, which were both a challenge and a lot of fun.”
Jim Birkett of Nobleboro, has been a member of the Tapestry Singers for many years. “The tenor and bass sections of the present Tapestry Singers are the strongest they have been for some time,” he says, “due perhaps to the positive and cooperative interaction of trained and talented singers with those less trained. Everyone leans on or supports the other.”
The Tapestry Singers rehearse on Monday evenings, 6:30-8:30, from Sept. to June at the Midcoast Friends Meetinghouse on Belvedere Road in Damariscotta. They offer two public programs per year, one in December and one in June, each presented twice at the Second Congregational Church in Newcastle. For more information or to schedule an audition, visit the website at TapestrySingersMaine.org.
Rick Burt and Franklin Holland of the Tapestry Singers await their performance in the June 2017 concert.
