Hope you are enjoying the series of articles on Maritime Explorers being written by Liz Bagonzi. I know that I am learning a lot about people she has written about and their seafaring adventures. The features have been quite fitting as a lead-in to Windjammer Days 2023 and the region’s maritime history. The articles are well written and they will continue for several more weeks. Thank you, Liz, and the Windjammer Days Committee for asking her to produce the articles.

Thanks, also, to those who have helped transition the classes from Boothbay Region Elementary School to Boothbay Region High School following the closure of BRES due to the extensive damage caused by the polar vortex a couple of weeks ago. We hope to get a report on the progress of the cleanup and repairs by sometime next week. We are also thankful that First National Bank and others are pitching in to resupply classroom items destroyed in the flooding.

The youth of the Boothbay region have been very busy this winter with classes, extra-curricular activities (sports, Y Arts, helping with the BRES “mess” and more) and raising funds for Project Graduation. They are to be commended for their spirit and willingness to be active in various school and community functions. We hope you enjoy your winter break!

Super Bowl was an exciting spectacle. It ranked up there with the Patriots-Seahawks and Patriots-Falcons championship games a few years back for last minute drama. I even stayed awake for the whole game, even though the Patriots weren’t playing.
