Trio charged with Oxycodone trafficking following Waldoboro stop
WALDOBORO — The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said in a news release that two men and a teenager have been charged in Waldoboro following a three-month investigation into the illegal distribution of Oxycodone throughout Lincoln County.
James Chamberlain, 39, of Waldoboro, and Louis Atkinson, 24, of Greene, were arrested for Class A Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Oxycodone) Oct. 19, in Waldoboro while parked on Route 1.
Chamberlain was also charged with violating his bail for a prior assault charge, according to the report.
And, a17 year-old Waldoboro boy has also been charged with trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Oxycodone), the Maine Department of Public Safety said.
On Saturday evening, drug agents, along with Lincoln County Sheriff's Office deputies and Maine State Troopers, made the arrests as Chamberlain and Atkinson were allegedly in the process of selling Oxycodone to the teenager as they were parked along Route 1 in Waldoboro in Chamberlain's 2003 Chevrolet Impala, the release said.
A search of the car resulted in the seizure of a loaded 9mm handgun, 342 30mg Oxycodone pills and $1,500 in suspected drug proceeds. The investigation indicated that Atkinson had allegedly been bringing Oxycodone from New York to Maine for distribution in Lincoln County. Atkinson is originally from New York City and recently moved to Greene. The average price of an Oxycodone pill is between $45 and $50, making the street value of the seized pills more than $15,000.
Chamberlain and Atkinson were transported to the Twin Bridges Jail in Wiscasset. Chamberlain was denied bail due to violating his current bail on the pending assault charge. Atkinson's bail was set at $25,000 cash or $100.000 surety. The teenager received a summons for a future court appearance.
Officers from the Waldoboro Police Department and Wardens from the Maine Warden Service also assisted in the arrests and search of the car Saturday night, the release said.
