Wabanaki Alliance joins Wiscasset Earth Day celebration April 27
The Wabanaki Alliance invites the Lincoln County community to visit our display and talk with us at the Earth Day Celebration on April 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wiscasset Community Center. Our table will feature information about innovative environmental protection/cultural preservation projects that Wabanaki nations in Maine are leading in collaboration with foresters, loggers, research scientists, Wabanaki basketmakers, the National Park Service, and others.
The display will include information about the Wabanaki Alliance (a non-profit organization formed to educate the people of Maine and advocate for recognition of the inherent sovereignty of the Wabanaki nations: the Houlton Band of Maliseet, Mi’kmaq Nation, Passamaquoddy Tribe (at Motahkmikuk and Sipayik) and Penobscot Nation.
Also on display will be Wabanaki-made baskets, a children’s book about sweetgrass and authored by a Wabanaki scientist and renowned basketmaker, and information about an online interactive climate course created by youth, scientists and Wabanaki leaders.
We look forward to meeting you on Saturday!
