His breakout role was in the Oscar winning film “Slumdog Millionaire” (2008). In May 2012, he played Sonny Kapoor in “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” (2011). In March 2015, he had a leading role in two major motion pictures released in the theaters at the same time: “Chappie” (2015) and “The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” (2015). And along with “The Personal History of David Copperfield” (2019), Dev Patel’s award-winning career continues to flourish. This year he returns to the screen as a classic Knight of the Round Table – and King Arthur’s relative to boot!
“Stillwater” - (R; 2 hours, 19 minutes) - Unemployed roughneck Bill Baker (Matt Damon) travels from Oklahoma to Marseille to visit his estranged daughter Allison (Abigail Breslin). Imprisoned for a murder she claims she did not commit. Allison seizes on a new tip that could exonerate her and presses Bill to engage her legal team but Bill eager to prove his worth and regain his daughter’s trust, takes matters into his own hands - quickly stymied by language barriers, cultural differences, and a complicated legal system. Final screenings at 2 and 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8 and Thursday, Sept. 9.
“The Green Knight” - (R; 2 hours, 10 minutes) - An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend - the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. Playing at 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10 (limited seating/masks required at 2:00 show); Saturday, Sept. 11; Wednesday, Sept. 15; Thursday, Sept. 16; and Sunday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m.
