‘Wild Things’ are at River Arts
River Arts in Damariscotta opens with the first juried show of 2021, “Wild Things.” Professional art, architecture, and design writer, Jorge Arango served as juror and selected works of 78 artists from the 111 submitted. This exhibition runs until May 22.
Artists were invited to interpret the theme “Wild Things” in their own way and the wide-ranging entries for this show provide some appealing and thought-provoking depictions. From gestural abstractions to natural scenery and intimate views, “Wild Things” represents a comprehensive survey of the theme.
Arango was open to the sweeping possibilities of this theme and his choices included many styles and mediums including minimal, abstract, representational, and assemblage sculpture. This show brought many new artists to the Damariscotta gallery as well as those who have been active at River Arts for years.
In contrast to this exuberant exhibition in the main gallery, the River Room is featuring photographs of Diane Woodworth of Hermon, Maine. These photos capture the calm beauty of nature as viewed through Woodworth’s camera lens. Her solo show runs until May 5.
