Wildwood Studio offering new fall classes
“Expressive Marks” is the first of two new fall classes being offered at Wildwood Studio on Westport Island. Class will be held from 1-3 p.m. for four weeks beginning Thursday, Sept.8.
Explore mark making as an art practice using sumi ink on paper with brushes, sticks, frayed rope and even straws. Create an individual vocabulary to use in quilts, books, drawings and meditation. Chose an image to establish in a daily drawing/meditation practice. Students begin with rich black sumi ink and then gradually add color. Keep a sketchbook.
Students will make drawings, books and cards while exploring unusual tools. This class is kept intentionally small to allow for individual exploration. Consider this class a pause in time where you can focus on mark making in a quiet space.
Most materials supplied including use of sumi brushes and inks, archival papers and small sketchbook. Bring a willingness to explore, to be open to new ideas and ways of expressing them.
“Make a Nature Themed Art Quilt” will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, beginning Monday, Sept. 12.
Students will make an art quilt using non-toxic dye sticks to draw on fabric. For inspiration gather a few leaves and or flowers maybe add a picture of a bird to translate to your fabric. Then embellish with beads, buttons, lace and colorful stitches.
Create your one of a kind quilt for your wall or as a gift. Supplies are included. Students will need to bring pins and embroidery scissors. Dress comfortably and bring your enthusiasm.
