Y Arts’ ‘Into the Woods Jr.’
The Boothbay Region YMCA Y Arts group performed three shows of “Into the Woods Junior” on Friday and Saturday, June 17 and 18 with one of the shows (1 p.m. Saturday) being a chance for understudies to take leading roles as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk), Rapunzel, Big Bad Wolf, Princes, and the Witch.
Performed at Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta, the somewhat madcap play was well done by the young actors. According to the Music Theatre International website, “The musical centers on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse, and wind up changed forever.”
The musical featured several memorable songs, perhaps the most memorable being “Agony,” sung by the princes who were pursuing Cinderella and Rapunzel.
The cast included Imij Armstead, Spencer Pottle, Sarah Harris, Violet Holbrook, Trey Tibbetts, Sophia Mansfield, Allison Smart, Jessie Ullo, Jojo Shea, Sofia Michaud, Anderson Pierpan, Lina Minzner, Rory Vaudreuil, Ivory Cody, Isabelle Lewis, Collin Cantillo, Scout Martin, Ford Harris, Caleb Bates, Nerla Bates, Fiona Bishop, Samantha Colby, Natalie Flagg, Andrew Minzner, Finn Sullivan, Kayla Watts, Georgiana Blake, Maya Jacobs, Lucie Hollon and Halena Bigonia.
The show was directed by Emily Mirabile. The tech crew included Ella Watts, Daman Leibert, Hamilton Pierpan, Andrew Minzner and Collin Cantillo. The show sponsors were the company of Lincoln County Community Theater’s production of “Bright Star” and the Hollon Family.
