Peregrine Press Printmakers at Green Lion Gallery
The Green Lion Gallery specializes in high-quality, individually-made fine art prints - and Maine is fortunate to have some successful and highly creative collaborative printmaking studios where artists produce them.
The Peregrine Press in Portland has been a dynamic and prolific community of printmakers for more than 25 years, and the Green Lion is delighted to present an exhibition of work by Peregrine artists opening on Friday, July 20 and on display through Aug. 13. Twenty-two artists from the Press have contributed original prints for the exhibition in a wide range of printmaking techniques including monoprints, wood block prints, linoleum prints, etchings, engravings, lithographs, serigraphs, and mixed media.
Peregrine Press, founded in 1991 in Portland, is the oldest fine arts printmaking cooperative in Maine, and among only a few of its kind in the nation. Currently there are 30 active members who work in a variety of printmaking techniques. The shared studio is operated and maintained on a cooperative basis by a collaborative group of printmakers whose processes, materials, images and ideas inform and influence each other. In the proximity of the studio, they share process work, cross- pollinate ideas, and inspire each other.
In addition to making prints, press members teach and attend workshops at the studio and participate in gallery exhibitions around Maine and New England. Members of the Press have shown work at Greenhut Galleries, Maine Coast Artists, Aucocisco Gallery, the George Marshall Store Gallery, the University of Maine, the Saco Museum, the University of New England – and now at the Green Lion.
There will be an opening reception for the show at the gallery, 104 Front St. in downtown Bath, Friday, July 20 from 4-7 p.m. as part of the Bath Art Walk. More information at www.greenlionart.com and www.peregrinepress.com.
