July/August Members’ Show celebrates nature
“Nature’s Sustaining Power,” is the underlying theme of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation’s (BRAF) newly-installed summer show running through August featuring the works of 60 artists.
While it appears that COVID-19 has brought about a “new normal” to our world; it also has opened our eyes to view the presence of Mother Nature’s enduring qualities. In this particular exhibit, our area artists have created visual tributes to our natural wonders, providing an exhibition that celebrates flowers, wildlife, scenery and all the elements of life that surrounds coastal Maine.
In addition to the regular members’ show, BRAF is sponsoring a special solo-artist-exhibit in the upstairs front room, Gallery One. Well-known area artist, Sarah Wilde, is presenting new works in acrylic that include two series. Most recently finished, is a series called “Corona Virus,” a response to these times, during which Sarah found herself drawn to a deeper place where she took some risks in “uncharted waters”. These pieces include six portraits with a message and one telling landscape. Her abstract series, called “Finding Connection” includes several pieces which were completed earlier this year.
BRAF continues to feature a swinging door of donated 12” x 12” canvases, painted by artist/members to help cover our overhead costs. Our non-profit mission - to give encouragement, support, a venue and publicity for local artists- has kept us in business for 55 years.
Please visit Boothbay Region Art Foundation’s gallery at 1 Townsend Avenue in downtown Boothbay Harbor. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
